An exhilarating interpretation of Tchaikovsky’s most secret operas through the captivating voice of Russian Counter Tenor Alexis Vassiliev.
This CD was born from the meeting between a voice, and a composer. Tchaikovsky (1840- 1893) is a universally known name, his instrumental works, his ballets, mixed with Russian and Western traditions, are produced all over the world. His immense popularity, yesterday as today, his almost expressionist romanticism and his orchestral mastery, however, let perceive the dark truth of a deep and tormented nature. This dark sensitivity, this absolute «success», is found in the heart of the melodies (over a hundred), where the composer let his secret soul speak, full of ambiguity and mystery, as was his life. They shelter the secret garden where the most intimate, the most painful of a being tortured byaforbiddenloveisexpressed.Tchaikovsky loved the music of the eighteenth century, he knew the art of castrati. It is no coincidence that the rare timbre of the countertenor contralto exalts so precisely the colors of the composer. Then reveals an unrecognized Tchaikovsky, served by the haunting voice of Alexis Vassilev.
